Net terug van een twee weken durende reis naar Afghanistan met CultureRoad. Fantastisch georganiseerd, en begeleidt door gids Xavi en locale gids Omid. Mooie route en we hebben alles kunnen zien en doen zoals van te voren aangegeven.

In oktober 2025 wederom met CultureRoad op reis geweest. Deze keer naar Jemen: de provincie Hadramaut. Fantastische sprookjesachtige architectuur, waarbij de meeste huizen en paleizen gebouwd zijn van modder en stro (adobe), met als hoogtepunt de stad Shibam. En de meest vriendelijke mensen die je een "Welcome to Yemen" toewensen en heel graag met je op de foto willen. Goed georganiseerde reis, mooie route en de locale partner-gidsen heel profesioneel en goed Engels sprekend. De hotels waren uitstekend, met goed internet. Culture Road organized an excellent tour of Nigeria & Benin in August 2025. We were there for the Osun Festival and saw no other tourists in Nigeria. We also saw African music sites and saw local dances performed. I joined CultureRoad travel on a tour to Syria in April 2025, and highly recommend it. Our guide was not only highly knowledgable and competent, she was also incredibly friendly and personable, guiding us through Syria, giving honest insight into various (socio-economic) topics and taking care of us.

My review could be nothing less than the five stars given. David was looking after us long before we met. He ensured we had all the information to make our Sao Tome connection, including photos of the local staff we would meet. He approached this tour as a highly skilled professional. He was particularly caring in his handling of me. He carried my heavy bag on a climb and ensured I was safe every step of the way. He enhanced a wonderful holiday and he is an asset to your company. Recently we went on a private tour to CAR and South Sudan with Culture Road Travel, Neithelands. We had a great time. The people on the ground were fantastic. Always on time, polite, flexible, ready to help, accommodating.

Though the guide in CAR could hardly speak any English he tried his best. He successfully resolved all the issues that are quite common in that part of the world and saved us from stress.

Guides in South Sudan were very good in every way. They might be a bit naive about certain things but that's understandable taking into account very few tourist they work with.

One thing a have to mention that could be improved.

As we know the roads in South Sudan are horrible. That comes as no surprise. Usually on trips like that  it is a combination of bad roads and OK roads. Or driving lasts no more that 4 hours per day if all the roads are so bad.

But I think if we have to drive for 11 hours (that’s how long it took with a few stops by police) there has to be a different option offered by the local travel agency. Especially to the tourist that are 50+ years old and taking a private tour in a small group.

That road ruined about backs. And of course we did not make it before dark.

So an option to consider would be to fly from Juba to Kapoeta and back. Or at least one way. If we knew about this option we would certainly plan our trip around the airline schedule.

Saying all that I would certainly recommend to go with Culture Road Travel for trips to parts of the world that are not discovered by many tourists yet and do not have a developed tourist infrastructure.
