Yes, in most places you’re free to take photos, and there’s plenty worth capturing. That said, it’s important to be respectful and aware of local sensitivities. Always ask for permission before photographing people, especially in more conservative areas. But never photographing military sites, police, checkpoints, or government buildings. Your guide will always let you know what’s appropriate in each situation, so when in doubt, just ask.

Yes, travel insurance is mandatory. Check that your policy covers the destination you go to. We recommend IATI Travel Insurance, which offers flexible coverage and a 5% discount if booked through CultureRoad.

Safety is our top priority and we don’t take you anywhere blindly. We carefully monitor the situation in every destination and only run trips when it’s considered safe to travel. We work with trusted local partners, experienced guides, and plan routes that avoid sensitive areas. That said, these are not typical holiday destinations. Things can change, and flexibility is part of the experience. We keep you informed at every stage and adjust plans when needed, so you can travel with confidence. If you want to know more about how we handle safety, check out our safety page with more details!

Our travelers are curious, open-minded, and up for something different. For group tours most people join solo and others come with a friend or partner. What they have in common is that they’re not looking for a standard holiday,  they want to understand a place, not just see it. You don’t need to be an expert traveler, but you should be flexible, respectful, and comfortable stepping outside your comfort zone.

Private tours are very flexible. We can adjust the pace, activities, and level of comfort to match your preferences, whether you want a slower, more relaxed experience or something more active. Our group tours are designed to be manageable for most people. Expect full days, some walking, and occasionally long travel days but nothing extreme. If you’re unsure, just ask and we’ll be honest about what to expect.

At the same time, we’re mindful of boundaries. Interactions are respectful and natural so not staged or intrusive.

Yes, many of our travelers are visiting these destinations for the first time. Traveling with CultureRoad means you’re not figuring things out on your own.
